MSN Peeves

How many of you don't have MSN?
Its such a vital form of communication in todays teenage era. Its cheap (literally free), its convenient, you can hold multiple conversations and even hold meetings with the knowledge that your minutes are automatically being saved for you. You can MSN almost anywhere as long as you have an internet connection and a computer. It has, like the email, become another essential form of communication in todays ever expanding world of busy people.

And its good for suan-ing people behind a wall of safety!

ok I was joking. *gags* =DD

I quote from the above 'another form of communication'
Every form of communication today has its own set rules of etiquette. In some countries, putting a thumbs up could be their equivalent of showing the middle finger. Whereas to them, showing the middle finger is actually a sign of goodwill. (Please, dont go round doing this though. Im pretty sure in Australia and Singapore it means 'fcuk you' and I do advise against using this gesture unless you are asking for trouble.)

In non verbal communication too, such as email, there are rules. For example, one should not type in capital letters. It is the verbal equivelant of shouting.

Similarly, on MSN, there are certain rules which I think, I should put into concrete form once and for all. I dont think any of my MSN contacts realise but there are some things that are downright annoying. So today, I am going to elaborate every single one of my (concocted) MSN rules. Since I have never mentioned this before, I will not be like, um, silently singling out anyone so if you've done any of the following before, dont worry, Im not doing this to make you feel bad. Cos pretty much every single one of my 160+ contacts have more or less done them before. =)

The Person Who Starts/Ends the Convo.
If someone says hi/hello or anything that starts a conversation, this more or less means that the person WANTS TO TALK TO YOU. You as the receiver, are obliged to reply, even if you do not want to talk to the person. In real life, not replying would be the equivelant of someone saying hi to you and you ignoring them. Which if you did that to me, you would get a big slap. JKJK! nah but still I wouldnt have a very good impression of you. I would think you are a stuck up poof-head.

And the last time I remember, a conversation generally requires TWO or more people interacting. If someone talks to you, he is trying to build a convo so for god sake make some effort to at least contribute and not reply with 'haha' or 'ya' or 'lol' to every single thing the other party says. Its totally screams 'disinterest' T_T Even if you are not interested, try to wiggle your way out in a nicer manner. Its not like you are so damn interesting and people line up to talk to you either. So dont be so stuck up.

Oh and another thing. Do not close a window when someone sends you a msg. Just cos you dont like the person you have no right to do that cos its the same as telling someone to shut up. RUDE!~ And also, do not leave a conversation without saying goodbye or at least telling the person you are leaving. Its the same as walking away mid convo. Now you wouldnt do that in real life would you?

Like...

You: HEY Reena guess what I saw today.. Harvery Norman is going to...

Me: *walks away*

Now thats isnt so pleasant is it?

The MSN Status.
Oh gawd. Alright how many people out there sign in as 'Busy' or 'Away' EVERY SINGLE TIME?! And stay that way throughout the time they are online?

I have yet to understand why the heck anyone does that. If you really were busy or away, you wouldn't sign in. Take note I am not saying that you should never use these statuses but its downright arrogant to put them all the time. From what Ive gathered, people do that to fool people into thinking they are not available to talk and thus others wont bombard them. That is the real life equivelant of walking around with a sign hung over you proclaiming

Dont talk to me. I will talk to you.

You are basically putting yourself on a pedestal. That only if one extends an invite then are you allowed to talk. Otherwise you shalt not be entertained. Pardon the language but at this point I am getting megarly angry. Seriously, don't be such a f******* hao lian (arrogant).

The Emoticon
Alright. I confess , I love emoticons. Especially those yellow faces. I think they are really adorable and are pretty good at conveying what I am feeling. I only use yellow faces.

What I DO NOT LIKE is act cute xiao jies who have to copy every single emoticon be it a glittery pink alphabet, a word which has been turned into little cartoon animation or the like. When you type a sentence on msn and all your 'shortcuts' get replaced with all the colourful fancy lettering. ITS GAWD-DAMN HARD TO READ.

Ive had instances where I take up to a minute to slowly right click all the unreadable ones so I can piece together its shortcut with the rest of the word. Its like giving me a puzzle to decipher all the animations and Ive got to do so to read you amazingly colourful message. And if you are a user of colourful glittery letters, do you realise that my eyeballs have to dart up and down because your huge glittery pimpy letter is like severly obese compared to your regular font. Sometimes I dont even know where your words start and end. Its just a big mass of letters

You think its creative.

I think its damn childish

Think of how many peoples eyesights you are ruining. Now do you feel guilty? huh? huh? HUH?!

*******************

I think that basically concludes my ranty tutorial (yes TUTORIAL) for today. I think I had more but these are the top three main peeves. Please avoid annoying me or anyone else. I confess I do AT TIMES do what I mentioned not to do. But that is only like what? 10% of the time?

And if you are on the receiving end, you obviously have pissed me off enough to justify my behaviour so MEH~

Otherwise, I can be your favourite conversationalist ^^

P/S: I really should get some sort of degree in human communication eh? First it was the Friendster Rant, now the MSN Rant...Gawd knows what next...

P/SS: having a million and one display pictures of yourself is not and has never been a MSN crime.

Cos I have almost 50 *wink* ^.~
