Electrical Hoses?

Thought of the day:
I heard on the news that some poor family's house got burned down due to the recent string of 40+ deg days. The owner was quaoted as saying 'I couldnt save it when it started as a small flame cos electricity was down and I couldnt operate the hose'.

Tell me, since when was hoses electricity-operated? I thought all taps , you just turn the tap
and WOOSH water flows out in abundance. In my many blackouts Ive experienced Ive
always been able to shower still.

Wierd.

And and... finally after a spate of hot days its rolling thunder and rain and lightning outside. HALLELUJAH!
